Cymulate, a technology startup that helps companies safeguard their business-critical assets with a unique breach and attack simulation platform, today announced the launch of two new solutions for organizations using a web application firewall (WAF) and/or data leakage prevention (DLP) solution. Designed to ensure that organizations know precisely how effective their security products really are, the new solutions are particularly suited to protecting sensitive information in the banking, healthcare, and insurance industries. The recent Equifax data breach is a dramatic example of what’s at stake. When cyberattackers broke into the powerful credit bureau’s system earlier this summer, they accessed credit card numbers and personal information, leaving more than 140 million people in danger of credit card fraud and identity theft.
The WAF and DLP solutions complement the core modules in Cymulate’s cyber simulation platform, an on-demand, plug-and-play solution that enables companies to automatically run simulations of multi-vector attacks from any location, at any time, with immediate results. The company has divided the attack surface into diverse attack vectors. The first four solutions include:
- Email (the main vector)
- Hopper (lateral movement)
- Internet browsing
- Phishing and awareness
The self-service model provides companies with a full picture of their security posture every day of the year, and allows them to control and manage any security gaps detected. The platform shortens the usual testing cycle and speeds up time to remediation substantially.
Cymulate’s two newly-released solutions deliver added value to companies using WAF and DLP products.
Data Exfiltration Assessment (testing DLP): Any company determined to protect its sensitive information can use DLP. Data breaches occur constantly—millions of personal records have been stolen during the first half of 2017 alone. It’s a lucrative exercise for cyber criminals that can cost breached entity hundreds of dollars per record in fines. Cymulate’s data exfiltration solution tests the effectiveness of an organization’s data leakage prevention solution in order to protect sensitive data from exposure. The solution can also be used to test how effectively device controls have been configured throughout the organization.
Web Application Firewall Assessment: More than ever before, organizations are using web applications to provide services to their employees and customers. Unfortunately, studies have shown that all web applications contain at least three major vulnerabilities. (Equifax says the cyberattackers broke through an “application vulnerability” to access its system.) Assessing the system with Cymulate’s WAF can help businesses protect their web applications. The R&D team is responsible for developing the web application firewall, while the security team is responsible for protecting the web application. Typically, when the security team finds a vulnerability, they must ask the developers to make the necessary changes. The Cymulate solution gives the security team the power to fix issues by themselves, and reach a new level of control over their key responsibilities.
